Bill: Blasphemy Law

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3617

Description[?]:

If passed, this bill shall implement a Blasphemy Law. This law will make PUBLIC blasphemy illegal. This law shall work alongside the current 'Right to Sue Against Slander' law that is in place. It should be illegal for someone to publicly disgrace a religion. It is one thing to offer fair criticisms of a religion, but to purposely offend a religion is morally wrong.

We would advise the HDP to look at the argument below before voting.

MessageWe offer a compromise for this bill to be passed. We will ensure that this bill is passed, if the NRP or HDP are willing to swing our way on the vote, if an article is added in this bill which enforces the taxation of churches. These are tough economic times and if churches can contribute to this nations economy, then we will do them a favor and get this bill passed.

MessageWe shall vote yes to this original bill. The taxation of churches should not be part of this argument - this is about making religious discrimination a thing of the past, just like we should aim to do with ALL forms of discrimination.

We, as a party, very rarely dedicate our time to religion in politics - at least not in this country. This is because it's not part of our party's main agenda. However, we oppose the discrimination of ANY person or group of persons. This is why this bill should be passed.

We urge our colleagues in the ANP to re evaluate their decision to block this bill if their terms are not agreed to.

MessageAs much as we are saddened to see that their are strong disagreements with regards to this bill from various parties - we are glad to see that their is a discussion taking place.

We hope the NRP and HDP can help us get this bill passed in its original form.

The compromise offer from the ANP is outrageous. Putting money before people is disgusting behavior from the leading governing party of this country.

MessageWe find it outrageous that a party feels the need to infringe upon the international human right of 'Freedom of Speech' because they might get offended by the things that someone says. There are more important matters to attend to in this country than religion.

Even if this bill is passed with the help of the NRP and HDP, we shall repeal it straight away after the next election if our seat count makes it possible for us to do so on our own with a majority.

MessageWe shall also implement a taxation against churches bill if we do win a majority vote.

The polls show that people in this country want a secular state and feel that religion isn't a huge issue here, at least not at this current time.

MessageWe would just like to correct you that, although the people drift more to wanting a secular state, religion is a DOMINANT issue in this country. This government propaganda is horrible. The corruption of the Nationalist Party is evident from the fact that they put money before people. We find it surprising that they are not voting with this bill in order to just obtain more seats after the next General Election - considering religion is a key issue amoungst our population.

We are now worried about the Government Television Network bill we just proposed, that is going to be passed, being abused when it is set up. We only hope that the people come to their senses and kick the ANP out of office!

MessageWe hope to see that this bill is passed with help of the HDP as we will vote YES when it is passed to the voting floor of the parliament. NRP member and National Minister of Internal Affairs, Falco Waltz, has declared that if this bill is rejected, he will resign.

This ultimatum is not just words, this is a genuine threat to the new coalition government we helped form. When a party declares that it will dedicate its time to blocking and repealing laws simply because they don't agree with them, even though other parties do, they are a serious threat to our democracy.

MessageThe Chancellor has voiced his concern of the proposed ultimatum. However, that will not bring the government down. The coalition may take a hit, it may even fall, but until the next election, the Alorian Nationalist Party shall remain the largest and strongest party. A minister resigning over a petty bill such as this would be rather pathetic. We are a coalition government, we disagree from time to time- Therefore, to resign over not getting your way is just a sign that the member who resigns, and perhaps even his party, are not worthy of being a part of the national government.

Do all the damage you can, but the electorate will decide who the ultimate winner of this battle is at the next general election.

MessageWhile we are believers in Hosian democracy we do not feel the need to impose blasphemy regulations publicly because the national police services should be more concerned with other crimes than memorizing the dozens of denominations of blasphemy here.
