Message | Nobody sane *likes* the idea of abortion, but the fact of the matter is, they're *going* to happen nonetheless. It is much better for them to happen in a safe, medically sanitary way rather than in the back alleys of our cities with the use of coat hangers. |

Message | To continue where my colleague, Senatoress Kayla Carruthers, left off, even though this bill will inevitably pass, we will not be taking any executive action in response to the new legislation--such as redefining what constitutes an "emergency"--even though we very well could. Our Head of State, Marquis Jones, was itching to do so once he heard about this bill, but we convinced him not to. The reason for this is that, at least for now, we remain a progressive enough nation to have birth control available free of charge to the citizens of Cobura. Rather, in response, we shall be launching a nationwide media campaign reminding women who wish to not have pregnancy result from sexual intercourse to remain current on their pills, and to remind their men to use weenie beanies. As for the dismantling of the single-payer health care system we recently instituted, we'll be more than happy to re-privatize the hospitals the Ministry of Health and Social Services is about to be required to relinquish control of... right into the hands of a Brotherhood of Homies-controlled non-profit medical company, to ensure the continuation of quality health care to all citizens of Cobura. Huge, for-profit companies have no business running hospitals. They're more concerned with their bottom lines than with the health of Coburans and Cobura as a whole. Nice try, though, y'all. - Isaac Jacobs Member of the Praetorian Senate of Cobura |

Message | *The Head of Government, Trayvon Kyle, and the Minister of Health and Social Services, Evan Evanson, walk into the legislative chamber and whisper to Senator Jacob for a few seconds. Senator Jacobs motions for every BoH member in the chamber to attend a private meeting.* *An hour later, Senator Jacobs and the rest of the BoH members return to their places.* Yeah, Trayvon educated me on that one for sure. Evan Evanson, the Minister of Health and Social Services, and we will only be transferring a minority of hospitals to the Tempest Medical Company, in accordance with Coburan monopoly law. What we *will* be doing, however, is ensuring that hospitals currently under Government control will only go to non-profit companies, to ensure that the profit motive stays OUT of matters of public health. We will not stand for a decline in the quality of Coburan health care because of the introduction of corrupt capitalism into the health system. - Isaac Jacobs Member of the Praetorian Senate of Cobura |

Message | The Coalition for Reason would like to remind the Tempest Party of section 4(2) of the constitution which clearly states: 'Executive decisions shall be entrusted in these bodies subject to the approval of the Pretoriana Senato de Kobura (Praetorian Senate of Cobura).' Translation: Marquis Jones cannot issue an Executive Order without this bodies approval. And i can think of approximately 66 members of this body who would not vote for an executive order of that sorts. I would also like to point out that we are simply privitizing the market and allowing competition and incentive for hospitals to offer the best care. People will still be laregly covered, and I motion for the party opposite to decrease healthcare spending and lower taxes to reflect this. I am also glad we can both agree that abortion is deplorable, truly. However you can not assume that every unwanted pregnancy under this law will result in a primitive 'coat hanger' type abortion. Legalizing murder would not make murder any safer and the same is true with abortion. We thank the so called Blarney Bunch for compromising with us on this bill. -Adorina Paulo Praetorian Senate Majority Leader |

Message | Don't worry, Mr. Jones won't be making any executive orders. Instead, Evan Evanson, our Health and Social Services Minister, will be handling this hospital business. It is explicitly stated in the job description that one of the responsibilities of the HSS Minister is managing hospitals infrastructure. He will simply be exercising his assigned duties by only allowing hospitals to be transferred to non-profit entities. Now, if y'all want to get on the slippery slope of Minister Evanson being required to get the approval of this legislative body to simply exercise his assigned duties, we'll be more than happy to oblige and clog up the legislature's schedule with bills requesting permission for the Minister to so much as pick up a pen off of his desk. Message | As for the prospect of the healthcare budget being cut, that won't be happening. We will simply be using that money to provide the subsidies called for in the new legislation. DuJuan Mays Brotherhood of Homies Minority Leader |
