Bill: Syndicalist Minority Government

Details

Submitted by[?]: Beluzian Syndicalist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3641

Description[?]:

If no multi-party coalition can be proposed or passed by the Assembly, then it will fall to us to form a minority government. This shall be our default proposal should all others fail.

MessagePlease note that the Beluzian cabinet has for two years been filled by Liberal Socialist and Liberal Democrat ministers - ministers without mandates, whose parties have now lost two successive elections.

We would encourage the Assembly to at least consider the minority option - provided that all other proposals fail - as a placeholder cabinet. It would not preclude us seeking a proper majority government later.

To continue to vote "no" against any cabinet proposal is to continue to endorse the squatter ministers from the Lib Socs and Lib Dems.

MessageWe currently have two proposals on the table which can form a government with your vote. The Government should represent the majority of those to participated in voting and that should be made up in its cabinet, representing politically diverse and vibrant forms of opinion. A cabinet made up of a party which received less than 20% of the vote, while amusing, would dismay some parts of our movement.

We are willing to consider this if no other option can be found, and we will also put forth other cabinet formations.

MessageIndeed. It is a default option. One which would remain only a placeholder, and not preclude further coalition talks. It just seemed an anomaly that we still had a remnant cabinet of Lib Socs and Lib Dems, last elected in 3636, and now clinging to office.

With the Liberal parties now impeached by the Assembly ombudsman, Beluzia lacks even a minority cabinet. 20% is better than 0%. You wouldn't want to give Grand Consul Wedgewood a heart attack from overwork, would you?

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost.

Random quote: "The 20th century has been characterised by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power; and the growth of corporate propaganda against democracy." - Alex Carey
