Bill: The Punishment and Rehabilitation of Prisoners Bill.

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Federalist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 3643

Description[?]:

As it stands, currant legislation makes it far too easy for prisoners. Work is voluntary for them and can spend their time enjoying comforts that the rest of us have to work ages for. Is this fair?

Prison should be a punishment. Work should be a compulsory task for all able-bodied prisoners. Doing this work they can pay back their debts to society. Their free labour undercuts the political power of the greedy strikers; a move that can only be seen as a good thing for business.

This work will also provide rehabilitation. When prisoners have served their sentence they need to be able to reintegrate. By undertaking work prisoners can learn new skills. They can learn how individualism and collectivism can be brought together. This is why we believe there should be no ending of education programmes, in order to help rehabilitation.

MessageWe have to wonder how reactionaries like you lot summon the brain power to remain breathing...

Slavery is abhorant. We thought that all civilised and educated people had reached consensus on that.

MessageWe are in agreement with the Beluzian Syndicalist party on this matter. It is highly concerning that our head of state is implicitly in support of a bill that would strip so many of its citizens of such basic human rights.

MessageIf you have committed a crime there needs to be punishment. The term is repay your debt to society which we believe this does. However we will make sure that this is implemented fairly. Work will not be pointless and needlessly backbreaking. It will be useful work and will make prisoners feel useful. There will also be conditions that are like any other working environment. We hope this clears up some concerns.

MessageIs the deprivation of liberty not punishment enough? This push to degrade and dehumanise rings of spite. Further you perpetuate the notion of work being virtuous for its own sake, while boasting that your underlying intention is to devalue free labour.

The last time we checked Beluzia was not some planter colony. Indentured servitude has no place here.

MessageWork is good for the soul and will allow criminals to reflect on their wrong doing and give them a sense of purpose. We never expected the old stuffy order to understand.

MessageOur movement is torn on this but... ultimately we have decided to vote no. While forced labour might be useful for increasing our economic growth, the complete subsuming to the inbuilt authority necessary to create this means we will merely be training automatons with no zeal about them.
