Description[?]:
Gicho-sama, One of the problems with this government's policies is their tendency to reduce everything to an economic calculation. Even the broadcasting system, long a bullwark of our pluralist Septembrist values, a TV and radio system all our communities could be part of, has now been sold off to the highest bidder in service to the government's market triumphalism. Centuries of experience in making quality television has been sidelined in favour of a market utopia. Even the Hulsterreichische Rundfunkstiftung, a world-renowned news broadcaster, has had to stop broadcasting, and with it our guarantee of truly independent news broadcasting. Gicho-sama, I was one of the many persons that valued the communal experience of millions of families across the Crownlands tuning in at eight o'clock to watch the same world-class news bulletin. That choice has been taken away from us, and I fully expect the depth and quality of our broadcasting system will deteriorate as a result. That is why I call for a vote to reinstitute the HRS in its old form, in preparation for a return to the old broadcasting sytem. Message | Herr Präsident, obviously if the HRF was truly the "world-renowned news broadcaster" with "millions of families across the Crownlands tuning in at eight o'clock to watch the same world-class news bulletin", than there is no reason why we should shield it from market competition through re-nationalization. It will remain competitive enough to hold its own on the free market without having to live off forced taxpayer contributions. Anton Großfurter, MdR LBU-Kuratha Bildungs- und Kulturminister |

Message | (OOC: Oops, I believe it was called the Kronenlander Rundfunk Stiftung, KRS, actually) Gicho-sama, how simple the lives of government MdR's must be! Reduce everything to a materialist calculation of money and market and the world surely must be a very simple place. The truth is, there's more that matters than money and economic and career success. As Großfurter-sama will be well aware, the major part of time on the public networks was allocated to the broadcasting associations, with the KRS being the only foundation among them for news and educational purposes and having a small part of the broadcasting time for high-quality news broadcasting. To suggest that the KRS could simply be turned into a profit-making machine is naive market triumphalism - it did not own a network, it simply provided a quality service as part of a pluralist broadcasting system. What I am suggesting is relatively modest - pay for one public network on television, perhaps four radio channels, to be filled by the KRS in the manner it did for the public broadcasting system.\ |
