Message | Mr. Speaker, Global free trade isn't our concern. We are elected by the people of Lodamun to look out for their interests. We prefer to keep Lodamun's economy protected. When foreign cheap goods flood our borders and run our local organisations out of business, where will our people get jobs to be able to continue affording consumer lifestyles? We will allow local businesses to drive each other out of business through local competition. At the end of the day, the money is still flowing into the hands of Lodamese employers and Lodamese workers. We will not allow foreign businesses to drive our local ones out of business. We say Lodamun first! -- Rolf Orman II, Trade/Industry Minister |

Message | Mr, Speaker, How is it possible for local business to be put under by free trade when the state owns all industries. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We do not support this bill. Foreign companies do not pay taxes in Lodamun. So in order to keep domestic businesses competitive in the market, these tariffs are necessary. Alice Nobleman, PPFD-specialist for Trade and Industry |

Message | Mr. Speaker, The state doesn't own all businesses. We don't want false claims to be made here. We advise the Federalists to stop their blatant lies and to do some fact-checking instead: http://classic.particracy.net/viewvariables.php?nationid=19 There are 3 countries with all industry being owned and operated by the state: http://classic.particracy.net/viewvariable.php?variable=INDUSTRY_REGULATION - Dundorf - Kanjor - Wantuni Compared to these countries, we go to the extreme with privatization. Even some of our public services (like policing and fire prevention) are in the hands of the private sector. The government is simply the spine of the economy, holding everything together, but the other bones being held together are private. We are a contract state. The government gives contracts to private labour firms which specialise in certain areas. For some industries, the government sets standards that private sector organisations should meet, and issues licences and contracts to them if they meet these standards. The Federalist Party seriously underestimates the size of the private sector. According to our laws: - The government operates a central bank and all other banks are private. - Energy is provided by private companies but the prices they can charge are regulated. - Private and public powerstations exist side-by-side. - Gambling is legal, but only in private homes and casinos with special licences. - The state owns the commanding heights of the economy and all major industries, but private ownership is allowed in the minor industries. - The government competitively subcontracts security management to private security firms. - The government competitively subcontracts firefighting services. - The government allows public and private higher education institutions to coexist with self-regulation for those that are private. - The government maintains a system of free publically owned nurseries alongside unregulated private establishments. - There is a free public education system alongside private schools. - The government subsidises independent non profit making cooperatives for educational and informational purposes; other private non-subsidised radio stations are allowed. - The government subsidises independent non profit making cooperatives for educational and informational purposes; other private non-subsidised TV stations are allowed. - The State encourages and funds private efforts towards the protection of cultural and historical heritage. - The national government contracts with private companies to maintain a system of libraries. - The government gives monetary grants to organizations which have established or are looking to establish museums. - The state owns and operates a national internet service provider, alongside private ISPs. - The government shall operate a space agency that contracts with and oversees private space-exploration companies. - There is a national agency which owns all forests, but subcontracts the work to private companies. - Private companies are responsible for disposing of their own waste. The government disposes of residential waste. - Strategic crops are produced on State owned farms. All other produce is left to the Private sector. - Adoption is regulated by private, recognised organisations. - All highway projects are undertaken by contracted firms. - The government contracts with private corporations to build public works. - The State contracts with private companies to provide public housing. - There is a nationalised post office, Private post office agencies are allowed to exist, and the services provided by them are not regulated. - Private companies operate regional TOC's. The national service is provided by a publicly owned, national TOC. -- Thomas Huddleson, Justice Minister |

Random fact: In cases where a party has no seat, the default presumption should be that the party is able to contribute to debates in the legislature due to one of its members winning a seat at a by-election. However, players may collectively improvise arrangements of their own to provide a satisfying explanation for how parties with no seats in the legislature can speak and vote there. |
