Bill: New Government New Cabinet

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kirlawa Liberal Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 3697

Description[?]:

Proposing a Cabinet. This cabinet is the most fair I have ever proposed I hope every party can see that, I also hope that all parties agree with me that the fact of the matter is that we need to change the cabinet every time a new government is vote in, because the Seat to Cabinet position ratio is not correct.

MessageHonestly fairness isn't what I measure a cabinet on. I prefer expected policy results, political influence, and areas of concern (I.e I'd be more likely to give Green Party the Ecotourism spot, KNFA might get culture and education, not guaranteed but more likely) and lastly maybe can pass (even if only barely) this has some merits but not my preference overall.

MessageIf it would make you fell better I would love to discuss my next cabinet with you, but this is the most fair cabinet I have proposed in a while. We also believe true democracy means fair cabinet ratios, I don't understand why you would want to object to this cabinet?

MessageOoc: Part of our disagreement here is that you view "democracy" as an ends and a value, whereas I see a means and a tool. A vote in-of-itself has no value, it is nothing. Checks and balances are something, they prevent governmental abuse. If votes provide a check and balance and if democracy is more accountable then it is reasonable. But just look at Ancient Greece: a very direct democracy, votes decided that they should give up democracy and elect a dictator (bad outcomes), the 'popular' government executed the philosopher Socrates for his "unpopular" views, etc. pure democracy results in tyranny by majority, it is voting without checks and balances, it has no conception of minority rights. That is why I prefer republicanism to pure democracy. Any who I'd be glad to discuss cabinets anytime you want to. Also another problem is that RP wise you prefer consensus whereas VVR has a more partisan theme to it.

Random fact: In cases where players have failed to clearly and accurately reference their nation's RP laws in the "Bills under debate" section, Moderation will rule them invalid if a challenge is made to their validity.

Random quote: "In Germany they first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me--and by that time no one was left to speak up." - Pastor Martin Niemoller
