Message | Madam Speaker -- We do not care for this change in the law as it is currently written because we would like more information. Is the MLR suggesting with this change, then, that "property owner" also means "business owner?" We don't believe that businesses should have the ability to make these rules for their employees and we would insist that, should we support this bill, "property owner" only applies to private property -- we have no problem with giving private property owners the right to choose to have or not have smoking on their property. Sincerely, The Steel and the Gray |

Message | Madam Speaker Is private business not a subset of private property? Whether residential or commercial, it should be the decision of the owner of that property to make this decision. Employees choose to work for a business. If they object to a smoking or anti-smoking policy, then they can leave, organize fellow employees or customers to change the policy, or accept it. We must respect the right of property owners to make decisions regarding their own property. Kristian Muller MLR Deputy Chairman |
