Message | Tigers are bigger, what about a wolf? That seems more indigenous to Pontesi. Plus they work together, hunt in packs more... etc. etc. How about an animal from the sea or the air? The hawk is so majestic and wise appearing... I've seen some up close, and I've seen eagles from far away on vacations and stuffed but the hawk really struck me. Of course, it was a specific type of hawk, i'm sure there are ugly ones. I'll look it up if you think its a good idea. |

Message | "A certain recording of the cry of the Red-tailed Hawk is probably one the most often heard cinematic sound cliché. This high fierce, scream is often featured in the background of adventure movies to give a sense of wilderness to the scene." That's what caught it for me! It was unbelievable, I was walking on the edge of the woods this summer and out of the green and wood they soared, the sun shining through their wings and that crazy cry. I was thinking that it sounded like in the movies! No wonder. I think it was a male and female adult, because they were really big birds and they had a huge wingspan and really didn't have to move a whole lot to fly, so watching them was even more surreal because it looked like they were moving in deliberate slowmotion or in quicksand. They swooped from branch to branch in the trees about three and half me's (6*3.5= 21 feet), taking off, flying up above the canopy, among the sun and blue sky, then soaring back through the branches of the forest to perch further ahead, and since the forest was at a weird angle, I could see their strategy. They were kind of taking it branch by branch, using each as a vantage point to see where to go to next, for precuation. People say they've seen a nest, so they must have been making a display for me to pee off. In fact I didn't want them to go away so bad that I did back off slowly and walked backwards, watching them. So they got what they wanted. Its funny because I've seen so many big birds here at home this year. Under the window next to the bed I sleep in at night we keep hearing and seeing the family of five Turkeys of acescending size and they sleep under the window, to be under the roof, making their weird turkey sound. They're massive beasts, and although they can't fly because of their size, they have huge wingspans too. They're both big, but the hawk leaves you in awe while the turkey comes across as a little stupid. |

Message | The Pontesi Imperal Party feels that whatever animal we choose, it should be a majestic creature, which can under no circumstances be perverted by our enemies (imagine our enemies calling us chickenhawks). We would propose the Great White Shark, the greatest of all the predators of our world. |

Message | chickenhawk? Trib laughs alongside Pontesi's enemies. Not because we mock Pontesi, but because we mock the concept of anyone striking out under a banner of "chickenhawk." |

Message | Pontesi is not one of the world's greatest Predators, if anything, the prawn, the world's greatest prey, more accurately represents us militarily. Thus our negotiations with other nations in intrests of nonagression and friendly relations... |

Message | I'm in favour of a leopard, few if any other country has a leopard as its national animal. |

Message | leopard is certainly interesting, but It is exclusive to South America (and Africa?) and we are best described as "Italy-like" with such a high christian/muslim combination I don't think we fit that ecological/national ratio, the lion was once widespread in southern Europe in fact until comparably recently, so thats how that one works. |

Message | A Red-Tailed Hawk may be a suitable emblem even if we are militarily dormant. It just means we'll make one hell of a noise if threatened. Kurui approves. |
