Description[?]:
Herr Präsident, The lack of public financing for electoral campaigns makes it hard for those less well of to succeed. In a democracy such as ours, politics is about representing all of the people, not just those who are able to pay for representation. We therefore seek to implement a electoral funding programme available to all who seek political representation. Regina de Wyrch Generalsekretärin (SL) |

Message | Herr Präsident, the kind of "freedom" this bill would bring about is a perverse one, namely the liberty of political aspirants, regardless of their seriosity or amateurism, to contest elections and fund their campaigns with the money of the taxpayer, without restrictions, even if they are, as a result of donations or personal wealth, affluent enough to do so themselves. If politics is about "is about representing all of the people", as Frau de Wyrch suggests, then we better had our politicians compete for their endorsement first before allowing them to access their money. Message | Herr Präsident, The honourable gentleman from the FKP seems to have little idea about how quite a few people in our country live, with little ability to gain neither wealth nor fame. It shouldn't matter who you are if you want to run for an elected position, we are a democracy, not an oligarchy. Regina de Wyrch Generalsekretärin (SL) |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
