Bill: Profit Tax

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Democracy Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3751

Description[?]:

The Social Democracy Party proposes the taxation of the profits made by corporations. We expect that if accepted the tax will allow the people of the Republic to all benefit from the profits of the corporations in its territory, not only their already rich owners and shareholders.

We have now also added taxation of religious profit, since from a secular point of view many times religious organizations work as corporations. Exception being made for charitable purposes.

MessageWe fully support article 2, however we cannot support the double taxation suggested in the first article. It would only be acceptable if income from stocks and bonds, having been taxed at the corporate level, were exempt from personal taxation.

MessageWe are willing to compromise on Article 1 by either halving the proposed profit tax or increasing it by 5% but ending government regulation of stock exchanges.

MessageIt is not the regulation of stock exchanges we oppose, but the double taxation of corporate income distributed as dividends. If dividend distribution were to be a deductible expense in determining taxable profit, we would support this. If income received from dividends were deductible on a personal level, we would also support this. Barring either of those alternatives, we mus dissent.
