Bill: Religious Toleration Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Monarchist Alliance

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3749

Description[?]:

We understand that the majority of the Presidium wants to maintain Lodamese Nationalism as the official religion, and we are prepared to accept that. What we are less prepared to accept are the restrictions imposed upon Hosian religious organisations and Hosian worship. Hosians and Hosian churches should be free to practice and share their faith in peace.

Chairman of the Conservative Monarchist Alliance

MessageMr. Speaker,

This effectively kills Lodamese Nationalism. If this bill is passed, it will no longer make sense for Lodamese Nationalism to remain the official religion. Lodamese Nationalism is essentially worship of the state.

MessageMr. Speaker

All religions especially Lodamese Nationalism must be respected. Something the CMA seems to be unaware of.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Matteo Powers should understand that in order for the state to respect a religion, it needs to allow it to practice freely. Under the current laws, this liberty is entirely denied to all religions other than Lodamese Nationalism.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The Lodamese state does not prevent Hulstrians from practising Hosianism freely, in Hulstria.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We are arguing here for the liberty of Lodamese citizens to freely practice their religious beliefs - whatever they may be - here in Lodamun. Why is that so much to ask?

MessageMr. Speaker,

Only Lodamese Nationalists should be Lodamese citizens.

MessageMr. Speaker,

That attitude sums up precisely why this Bill so desperately needs to be passed.

MessageMr. Speaker,

This bill is not tolerant of Lodamese Nationalism. Lodamese Nationalism is a religion that is about state worship. 2 of the articles of the bill will destroy what Lodamese Nationalism is.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The Percy reforms already forsee 'freedom of religion' in private, and that the non-believers of Lodamese Nationalism shall be granted the same rights as the believers. I can not understand why the CMA is claiming that there is no freedom of religion? Only openly spreading and preaching another religion in public places, without consent of the government, is illegal.

MessageMr. Speaker,

The CMA wants Hosian dominance, not freedom of religion. They just want to get rid of Lodamese Nationalism so that they can replace it with Hosianism.

The point of Lodamese Nationalism was having an ideology to unite the people. The religion of Lodamese Nationalism would be managed by the democratically-elected representatives of the people. We believed that this was better than having a foreign religion endorsed by a foreign monarch.

MessageOOC: My understanding was that Hosianism is not a recognised religion and Hosianism organisations/churches are not allowed to organise. Am I mistaken?

Date06:10:41, October 26, 2014 CET
From Great National Republican Guard
ToDebating the Religious Toleration Act
MessageOOC: It's not a recognised religion, so it couldn't set up schools under the old law, but nothing was said about Hosians not being allowed to organise. Hosians aren't allowed to promote Hosianism freely.

Date16:24:57, October 27, 2014 CET
FromConservative Monarchist Alliance
ToDebating the Religious Toleration Act
MessageOOC: I would have thought it would not be possible for Hosians to open up a church and hold public services/meetings there, since that could be deemed to be promoting/advertisement. Also, it would be difficult for Hosians to set up churches if the state gets to appoint their religious ministers.

Presumably, though, they could hold religious meetings quietly, in private houses etc...

MessageOOC:

Yeah, a true "Hosian" church would have to be a secret one in someone's house or something. It would be unrealistic to have a big visible church with true Hosians.
