Bill: Campaign Funding Act
Details
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 3750
Description[?]:
The purpose of this bill is to minimize the effect of money or popular opinion on the political choices available to citizens. All parties should receive an equal amount of campaign finances, regardless of their size or popularity. We believe that all political choices should be treated equally, and citizens can vote for whichever way they find to be the best based on discourse and discussion, not on the amount of political advertisements a party can pump out. Letting more popular parties get more funds will lead to those views getting cemented, and since there probably never will be a completely correct political ideology, we see this as only hampering political progress and potentially causing citizen disinterest in politics. |

Message | MP: this would undermine the purpose of this bill, which is to make sure all political parties are on a level financial base during campaigns. We would still mandate that in our bill, but we couldn't imagine why any party would want to collect their supporters' money, if they can only take in a certain amount, if that money is guaranteed by the state anyway. In principle, we can support the current system in place as well, but since it can be hard to track donations to political parties, we would support a system where private donations are illegal. Overall, we don't see a need for private donations anyway, since it is undemocratic in our opinion that wealthier people can have a stronger influence on politics than less fortunate people. If a party has lots of support, its supporters can show it in other ways through political activism, but the monetary base during campaigns for all parties should be equal, so that all parties could get an equal share of attention from the voters, since no party is never 100% correct, despite their current popularity or success. |

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election. |
