Bill: Recycling Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Neo-Libertarian Party of Kalistan
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2053
Description[?]:
In the current day, in Kalistan, it is required for citizens, corporations, and industries to recycle. However, is the addendum to this bill nessicary? We would prefer to be rid of government-sponsored recycling for good. Perhaps subcontract it to someone. But, in the current political day and age, we know that introducing such a bill would be futile. So we attempt this. We believe that forcing citizens to recycle is pointless, and encroaches apon their rights. Really, how do we enforce it, anyway? |

Old value:: The government funds recycling facilities and enforces mandatory recycling for residents, commercial enterprise, and industry.

Message | Usually enforcement requires "busting heads", i.e. the use of coercive force. While coercive force is certainly required for critical issues that must be nationally managed... does recycling fit that bill? |
Date | 05:13:26, May 16, 2005 CET | From | Conservative Neoliberalist Party | To | Debating the Recycling Bill |
Message | We agree totally that forcing people to use these facilities is rather pointless. The facilities must be available, but not in a way that you end up in jail for throwing away a tin can. |

Message | Excuse me while I envision this... "Do your recycling or we'll break your kneecaps." Is that the nation that we want? |

Message | I'm waiting for someone to say that this is a bad idea before I send this to vote. But if that doesn't happen soon, I'll do it anyway. |

Message | Allow me to oblige, then: This is a Bad Idea. Just making recycling facilities available for whoever wants to use them has been proven highly ineffective. People are inherently lazy. Our environment is important. If we do not take care of it, we are jeopardizing the future of our children in a way that is impossible to imagine. This bill is Needed. (Oh, and obviously we do not jail people for breaking this law - unless it is a serious, blatant infliction of a large, industrial scale - but we simply fine them.) |

Message | As to the question "How do we enforce it anyway?"... By providing different colored garbage bags for different types of garbage. Is it a hassle for the people? A little, at first, because people are set in their ways. But you'd be surprised how easily they'll adapt to this. And the pay off, in the long term, is enourmous. |

Message | That's how people recycle. The question is "how do we FORCE people to recycle"? Fines? Come on. Fining someone for not recying? Jailing an executive for not taking out his trash properly? This is another infringement of civil rights by big goverment. |

Message | Again, nobody but you mentioned jailing. You have very little faith in our citizens, it seems. People won't *need* to be FORCED. When properly explained and provided with the opportunity, our citizens will - after a brief adjustment period - recycle without thinking twice about it. It's as simple as providing them with different colored garbage bags. Yes, occasionally things will end up in the wrong bag - yes, serious offenders may receive a fine - but the huge majority of garbage will be recycled with very little effort on everybody's part. Asking people to use 2 seconds of common sense when tossing something in the trash can is not a civil rights infringement. It's looking after the future of our offspring. |
