Bill: Petition to Re-Ratify Secularist and Atheist International

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Unity Party of Valruzia

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 3763

Description[?]:

As the previous concerns expressed by the Technocratic Party, namely that the treaty "forbids any conversation or debate on the topic", are completely unfounded, we urge the Government to read the articles of the treaty and reconsider their opposition to Valruzia's membership of the Secularist and Atheist International.

MessageOOC: The only reason I'm against this bill is that it makes it impossible to suggest anything by way of religion in bills. If the whole section is reduced down to nothing more than one-option proposals, there's no way to alter visibility in this area. Not that it's a huge area of interest by way of this nation's political opinions, but I'd still like the option. By way of RP, the Technocrats are 100% behind this, but I cannot support this out of consideration for game mechanics.

MessageOOC: you could say the same about every single international treaty which has any articles in it - should we scrap those as well? If future governments want to change religious laws they can repeal the treaty.

MessageOOC: You know what, fuck it. Re-introduce it. I'm tired of spiteful arguing at this point. I came back to Valruzia to restore some of the cultural values that were vandalized over the years. It's a wonder that we haven't fallen into obscurity and become a nauseating generic mess like Lodamun. I was under the initial impression that we might be able to work together for a better RP of this nation, but the recent election loss has caused a huge rift, be it fueled by my need to restore this nation to its previous glories or by your bitterness that your term in office was ended so abruptly by a veteran. Whatever the case, this isn't the way forward.

My duties at the moment will be to renovate our wiki page, which hasn't been updated in some time. Should you wish to cease with your "Scorched Earth" politics and actually work together on something that makes Lodamun look like a piece of shit, I'm fully open to the idea. I don't wish to clash on every single issue, so I guess we'll have to avoid each other until something out of the ordinary happens.

MessageOOC: I was making a serious point - hopefully you can see the logic of my argument. Anyway I can't reintroduce it so you'll need to do that yourself.

And in regards to your second point - I was quite looking forward to having an active second party in Valruzia. What I didn't particularly appreciate was you coming in and making very strong statements about how you were unhappy that Valruzia had been turned into a 'generic democracy like Lodamun' - given I have been the only active party operating in Valruzia for the past 50 IG years how else am I supposed to interpret that other than as a personal criticism? For the record I don't think Valruzia is a 'generic democracy' - economically we have a lot of state ownership and have very strong secular politics which to me makes Valruzia distinct from a lot of other democracies around the globe. Secondly I can't say I was too impressed with the RPing of major riots on a relatively trivial issue without any consultation whatsoever. Thirdly (and this is linked to the first point) I sense a holier than thou attitude which isn't particularly conducive to us getting along as it currently stands - your use of the word 'veteran' here says it all; implying that your experience of the game makes you superior (FYI: I first started playing Particracy in 2006, not that this is remotely significant given there is zero correlation between seniority and ability as I am sure you are perfectly aware yourself). Respect is a two way process. And although you seem to be under the impression that I'm voting against things out of bitterness, I believe I've articulated why I have opposed in most circumstances - in regards to the region name changes I believe I already explained the reasons for my opposition in an earlier bill you presented. The reality is most of the bills you present will be opposed, purely due to the fact that over the past fifty years I have had more or less free reign to implement the policies I support - so in other words when you present legislation you are (for the most part) changing or amending laws which were originally implemented by me.

I'm not averse to getting on, but it's only going to happen if you want it to happen.

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.
