Message | Mr. Consul, While we agree with the article on Collective Bargaining, we are very concerned with Article 2. Health and safety regulation is needed to prevent injuries or deaths to individuals. Without these regulations, more, not less money, will be required out of the budget as hospitals become strained from the influx of patients. Malagasy Thatcher Leader of the Democratic Progressives |

Message | Dear Mr Thatcher, no employer has any interest in hurting his employees because this would lead to less productivity. What the industry needs is the expertise to ensure the safety of its employees. Crassus Vampus, KLP fraction leader |

Message | Mr. Consul, We are not just talking about hurting employees but for consumers as well. Say an electric plug was manufactured wrongly. The consumer may have no way of knowing it, but they might well suffer electrocution or burns from handling it. Naturally, he/she will be sent to the hospital to be treated, perhaps for a long time. Imagine many of these patients occurring, due to our burgeoning industry. What would the consequence on our health industry be? What about the whole economy itself as workers become injured from mishandling appliances that the employer, while not having malicious intentions, take the risk? There has to be regulations for this industry, and while we as a party are all for laissez-faire policing of the free market, health and safety is something we will NOT compromise on. Message | Dear Mr Thatcher, when one case happens in this direction, the bad publicity will lead to immidiate problems for this company. Consequently all companies are frightened of such a mistake and avoids it. It is also a very wild assumption that we could control all appliances and machines in this country. Alaw which cannot be entirely carried out erodes the respect of the people for the rule of law. Crassus Vampus, KLP fraction leader |

Message | Mr. Consul, That argument is in fact fallacious. So the industry will fix the problem *after* it has occurred? The old adage "prevention is better than cure" rings true time anytime again, but it seems to be ignored in this instance. Admittedly, not all items could be individually controlled, but there has to be a basic safety framework for all company's products and manufacturing products to adhere to. Government bureaucracy may mean it will not always be carried out in its entirety, but it is far better than having no law present at all. Malagasy Thatcher Leader of the Democratic Progressives |
