Message | Mr. Speaker, why should we do this? I cannot imagine any reason why we should change this law. The recording of DNA helps us solve crimes and even more important, it helps prevent crime. Jonathan Geel Minister of Foreign Affairs |

Message | Mr. Speaker, What use will it be to only record the DNA of persons who were already convicted of a crime? Wouldn't they be in prison? When they come out, don't we trust our correctional system enough to ensure that they won't commit a crime again? We will be maintaining this expensive DNA database which could only help us with second-time offenders. Why don't we keep the national database with all citizens so that we can solve crimes easier, identify dead bodies easier, and trace lineage easier? If the supporters of the FJS do not want their DNA recorded by the government of Lodamun, they should leave because they should not be citizens of Lodamun. They can enjoy their supposed "right to privacy" in another place, like Zardugal. -- Andre Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG, Minister of Trade/Industry, Vice President of Lodamun |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Privacy is a fundamental human right. If persons violate our laws their DNA will be on file in case they re-offend. Otherwise we shouldn't be treating law abiding citizens like criminals collecting their DNA. Sure, DNA collection does help solve some crimes, but at what cost? Perhaps we should install government surveillance cameras in every home; that way if a murder is committed we can prosecute the offender. Where do you draw the line? Does the police state you want to impose have no limit? We are a freedom loving people, we shouldn't have Big Brother watching our every move. Those who would sacrifice essential liberties for a little temporary security deserve neither liberty nor security. Elizabeth Blind FJS Justice Adviser |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Solving crime isn't the only use of DNA. Are the members of the FJS stupid? They're proposing to keep a DNA database that only involves convicted criminals. Will this, in any way, help to solve crime? No; it is a waste of money. While proposing to waste money on an ineffective law to address crime, they ignore the other purposes that a DNA database can serve. DNA collection has health and science purposes as well. It makes it easier to identify bodies, and to trace lineage to avoid inbreeding. It also helps us to know which citizens are more likely to be affected by some diseases, and we have all this on record from the day each citizen was born. But let us discuss the crime aspect anyway. How will the proposed law, to collect DNA only from persons convicted of a crime, serve any purpose? We raised this point and the members of the FJS continue to ignore it. We might as well not have a DNA database at all. When DNA-evidence is the only evidence that can help to solve a crime, a crime will never be solved unless it was committed by someone who was found guilty of a previous crime. Someone can just murder someone else for the first time, and get away with it. Since he gets away with it, he can do it again, and the case may never be solved because this person was never found. If he is ever a suspect, he can just wave his FJS membership in the face of the police and talk about his personal rights and freedoms and other bourgeois nonsense. Unless someone is already found guilty of a crime, his DNA won't be taken for testing with DNA evidence. We already see how this would cause less crimes to be solved, so less persons would be convicted for crimes and the increase in unsolved crimes will become exponential. It would make a little more sense if the FJS proposed something that at least allowed the government to demand crime suspects, instead of only crime convicts, to surrender their DNA. Anyway, even this won't have my support because it will kill the health and science benefits of having a national DNA database. If the members of the FJS can't live with the fact that we have a national DNA database, they are free to kill themselves. If they are hesitant, I will be glad to help to kill some FJS members. -- Andre Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG, Minister of Trade/Industry, Vice President of Lodamun |
