Voting deadline: October 2056
Description[?]:
"As part of an international commitement to promoting responsible and sustainable industry, parties from several countries created the Fair Trade Agreement, which would create an international definition of fair trade, as well as a commission to certify businesses as fair trade. The text of the treaty can be found here: http://www.takeforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=392&mforum=particracy The purpose of this treaty is to create economic incentive for businesses to practice fair trade, rather than exploitative trade practices, and to avoid a race to the bottom with labor and environmental practicies. We submit the FTA to your nation for ratification, and note that because the definition of fair trade has not been decided, and so signatories will have a very direct say in how fair trade businesses are certified in years to come. We hope your nation will choose to ratify the FTA, and look forward to working with your government on this issue in the future. R. Alexander Foreign Minister of Malivia" Yes/No/Maybe so? |

Message | No, we won't having any of this pushing the cost of living up any higher. |

Message | I'll vote 'No' because of the following part of the Free Trade Agreement: "-D. The signatories agree to remove all tariffs on fair trade goods from other signatories. E. The signatories agree to set tariffs on fair trade goods from other nations at no more than 6%." 1. There is no clear definition of "fair trade goods". 2. To set tarrifs on goods from other nations at no more than 6 % would virtually destroy all the control we have over import. |
