Message"We are worried about such decentralization tendencies. These will not help making Dranland free and democratic again. Our current local communities are to a large extent tinctured by centuries of Kyo racism and bigotry.

We would prefer the abolition of Governorships entirely, handing governor powers to municipal councils. Governor elections was always such a waste of tax money anyway, in the past."

MessageMr Speaker,

as Unionists we remain sceptical of any decentralization tendencies, in particular in this case, which might lead to new forms of ethnic conflict if a municipality, for example, decides that only members of a certain race may be appointed as Mayors.

MessageMr. Speaker,

This proposal is significantly better than the current law which simply gives too much power to the head of state. However, the coalition agrees with Morganna Fahramar's view that municipal councils could do an excellent job of exercising the powers of governors/mayors.

MessageUijangnim-ssi,

We do not share the concerns raised by opponents of this bill regarding sectional tendencies. This bill is a radical measure allowing each region to choose the method of appointment desirable to its own needs and ethnic makeup. The government of the Union will guarantee that such methods are not exclusionary and fully democratic, as is guaranteed under the constitutional principles underlying the Union.

Eduardo Ryu
Convenor of the Government

(OOC: I assumed that the bill meant local governments could choose from all alternatives provided in the variable)

Random fact: Did you know you can change the official name of your nation? All you need to do is draw up a new name that is in accordance with the Nation Renaming Guide, pass a bill proposing the name change with a two-thirds majority and then post a request to Moderation on the "Renaming Requests" thread. You can change city and region names in this way too.
