Message | We're in favour of this because if some large families may not need the benefits. For example, there may be a large family of millionaires, are you saying it's right to give millionaires benefits? And if the family is struggling financially with their large families then technically that would mean they're low income anyway thus all large families struggling would receive benefits and those who can afford large families won't wrongfully be given benefits, it's win win. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, The LIP sees the law as giving government aid to families that are both large and low-income/poor. While this bill has obvious humanitarian ideals behind it, the LIP does not wish to set up the expectation that the government will bail anyone out if they fail. Likewise to address the views of the Choice, the LIP is highly doubtful that millionaires would be willing to part with their money to raise a large family. Instead of millionaires receiving the government support, the LIP belives that middle-class worke with large families are given government money under the current wording of the law, allowing them to benefit even though they aren't low-income/poor. I yield. |
