Message | "Mr. Speaker, Today I rise to offer my objection to this bill. This bill is, at best, irresponsible and dangerous. At worst it's a deliberate attempt to disrupt the security of this great nation. Citizens may own any type of weapon? May I ask what need a Solentian citizen would have for a rocket propelled grenade launcher? What need would a citizen have for a tank? What need would a citizen have for a mortar? I can't think of one. These types of weapons should not be readily available to the general population. Such weapons have purposes, destruction. They should be reserved for the military specifically. Furthermore, to deregulate the sell of armaments is just reckless and dangerous. We should be very specific in who we choose to sell arms to. Should we allow weapons to be sold to human rights violators? Absolutely not. Should we be selling weapon to oppressive regimes? Certainly not. Should it be okay for weapons companies to sell weapons to terrorist organizations? I would say not. We must be mindful and responsible in regards to whom weapons from this nation are sold to. Paramilitary organizations, what justification can there be for allowing them to exists and to opperate? They are dangerous. They are an affornt to democracy and to liberty in this country. They should not allowed to exist or to operate in this nation. We urge you all to vote down this awful piece of legislation. It is irresponsible, reckless, and dangerous. " -Nicola Surgeon, SNP Leader |
