Bill: Child Benefit Simplification Policy
Details

Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3881
Description[?]:
We do not see the need to have restrictions on child benefits as we see today. They should be given for every child. Factors such as income or family size can lead to unwanted consequences. For example: A family might have more children specifically to be eligible. Conversely, a family might lose benefits if their family income goes up too much. As a result they might avoid or outright deny a promotion. In light of this we view a universal child benefit for every Hutori child as the best solution to solve these and other problems with current policy. |

Message | Well we applaud the LL for their progressive thought the fiscal and economic reality is that the government can not afford to pay out a child benefit for every single family. There are many wealthy families that may not need it, and other families that may have more children explicitly for the reason of being entitled to a larger benefit. With the current model the families that legitimately need the support, such as low income, get the help they need. If a family member gets a promotion that makes them ineligible for the benefit it would mean they should be able to support that family to begin with. While the NCP is most definitely in favour of family values, this can lead to abuse. Garry Wilson Minister of Health and Social Services |

Message | We do see your concerns, however we find the problems with current policy worse overall. As far as not being able to afford it, we have hundreds of billions available to spend elsewhere, spending a little more for families will not break the bank. |
