Bill: Mayor Election Act of 3882
Details
Submitted by[?]: Davostan Monarchist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3886
Description[?]:
We would like to change the law concerning the appointment of mayors from the local governments' decision to an election by the citizens. We believe it is the citizens' right to elect their mayor. This law will allow them to influence their regions more directly since they'll have be guaranteed the right to elect their mayor instead of some local governments appointing the mayors instead. Direct democracy = best democracy. |
Proposals

Old value:: Local governments determine the method of appointment.

Message | This law would allow citizens to more directly influence their region and local government. This will make local governments more democratic. We agree that local governments are the bedrock of democracy and that's why we should let our citizens be as directly involved in them as possible. |

Message | What will the supposed mayoral powers be? If it is so effective then why haven't local governments implemented it already? |

Message | We may also point out that many local governments make collective decisions. This is more democratic and effective. This would have a negative effect on those areas as it would destroy tradition. |

Message | "What will the supposed mayoral powers be? If it is so effective then why haven't local governments implemented it already?" - The mayoral powers are already set. This law isn't changing anything about mayors other than how they get their position. "We may also point out that many local governments make collective decisions. This is more democratic and effective. This would have a negative effect on those areas as it would destroy tradition." - Letting people vote for their own mayor is more democratic than the local government deciding it. |

Message | The "mayors" are non existent in many parts. It is an unknown position. Some areas even maintain the tradition of the President appointing a leader. This bill is creating the position of mayor in many parts of Davostan |
