Bill: Composition and Method of Election of the Senate

Details

Submitted by[?]: Plaid Geidwadol Traddodiadol (PGT)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3971

Description[?]:

As Minister of Internal Affairs, it is my duty and responsibility to regulate and manage the elections of our kingdom. The current system has persisted for a great many years, however, I believe that scaling down the members of the Senate and adopting a single-member district/first past the post system would be more beneficial and representative of the various ethnic groups of Aloria.

As a people, the Draddwyr far outnumber the Alorian Dundorfians and Selucians. In a proportional system, they would receive a greater deal of representation. Our nation is a federal one that respects the histories and cultures of each group, especially as we have devolved many powers to the constituent kingdoms. Eliminating a proportional electoral system would allow for greater diversity and representation amongst the peoples of Aloria.

I urge that the Senate be reduced to 161 members. This would greatly reduce government bureaucracy and make paying senators and their staffs much easier for the taxpayers.
