Bill: Child Benefit Reforms 3896

Details

Submitted by[?]: Choice

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 3897

Description[?]:

Currently, the State guarantees child benefit to all families. However this is a massive strain on the taxpayer and many families do not at all need child benefits. We propose changing this legislation to the State guaranteeing child benefit to families classified as low-income or poor. Note that families who were not low income before the child but are struggling financially due to the child will be classified as low income. Under the current legislation even millionaires are receiving benefits due to this oversight. This new proposed system us much fairer and more sensible.

MessageMr Speaker

So you believe that a family of millionaires should be receiving benefits from the state that they do not actually require?

MessageMr. Speaker

We wholeheartedly agree with our Honourable colleagues from Choice. We will be voting in favor but will be proposing an Amendment to the Bill to actually classify low-income.
