Bill: Railways Act, 3904

Details

Submitted by[?]: Folkepartiet (People's Party)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3904

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

We've said for a while now that the government has been doing the wrong things. While we're subsidising local public transport heavily, the railways are in private hands and charging exorbitant rates. We believe the government should be consistent in this: next time the franchise comes up, the case for a national train operating company, privately-run but owned by the state, should be very much examined. This will allow the government greater control over the quality of our railways, which link communities (especially in mountainous rural areas) across the country, to deliver a railway service that is run in the interests of all and that can truly improve the liveability of our communities.

MessageMr Speaker,

We strongly support this Bill and would like to see such an approach extended to all infrastructural and telecommunications policy. These are areas where market forces alone cannot be trusted to provide efficient service as investment in the areas mentioned by the Hon. Member is often viewed as too risky and unprofitable.

Random fact: The voters enjoy active parties who take upon themselves the initiative to create laws.

Random quote: "The problem is big government. If whoever controls government can impose his way upon you, you have to fight constantly to prevent the control from being harmful. With small, limited government, it doesn't much matter who controls it, because it can't do you much harm." - Harry Browne
