| The Armed Forces of Jakania are charged with being the national defense forces of the Republic. Their mission is to protect the territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and interests of the Republic nd ensure its continued existance. The President is reaffirmed in his role as the commander in chief of the armed forces and shall be assisted in his mission to protect the nation by the National Defense Commission, which is to be a hybrid military-civilian national council to advise the President on matters relating to the national defense. President (ex officio Chair) -National Military Affairs Adviser -Minister of Defense -Chairman of the Jakanian High Defense Council --Chief of Staff (Army) --Chief of Staff (Navy) --Chief of Staff (Air Defense and Air Forces) --Chief of Staff (National Defense and Reserve Forces) -Director of the Jakanian Defense Security Agency The Jakanian High Defense Council will be the highest military advisory and coordination body of the AFJ. It will be headed by a Chair, appointed by the President and shall consist of the following officers and members: -Chair of the JHDC -Vice Chair -Chief of Staff (Army) -Chief of Staff (Navy) --Commander of the Jakanian Marine Force -Chief of Staff (Air Defense and Air Forces) -Chief of Staff (National Defense and Reserve Forces) Description: Jakanian National Army: Main territorial defense force responsible for protecting the territorial integrity of the nation Jakanian National Navy: Main maritime defense force responsible for ensuring the maritime based protection of the country and its interests at sea Jakanian National Air Defense and Air Forces: Responsible for protection of Jakanian airways and aerial defense for outsider threats Jakanian National Defense Forces: Responsible for the domestic security of the Republic and to provide auxiliary support to the regular armed forces (think National Guard type force) Jakanian Reserve Forces: Designed to augment the Army, Navy, and Air Force in an appropriate capacity during an emergency situation and during wartime Jakanian Marine Force: Responsible for amphibious operations and working with the Navy to enhance coastal protection operations Numbers: Army: 360,000 Navy: 22,000 Air Force and Air Defense: 68,000 Marines: 15,000 National Defense Force: 100,000 (20,000 per Governorate) Reserve Defense Forces: 400,000 Overview: Generally speaking Jakania has some of the worst armed forces in Majatra and all of Terra. Usually the regime of the day maintains a large number soldiers for two purposes: to soak up unemployed youth to prevent civil disturbances, and to maintain a large and dispersed security force that doesn't threaten the civil powers of the day. To a large extent, the country often benefits from large amounts of foreign military aid (historical suppliers usually are Zardugal, Deltaria, and Indrala with aid amounts depending how driven they are to cultivate allies) which is usually squandered by corrupt officers and soldiers who receive pitiful pay and benefits and often seek to supplement their meager income. In terms of funding, the Army, and other land focused forces often receive the lions share of the funding with little left over for the Navy (usually just a glorified coastal defense force) and the Air Force (usually just beefed up helicopter force with few fighter jets) though air defense units often get sizable budgets. However, despite these short comings, the Armed Forces have a history of performing stunning upsets, and nearby powers often try and recruit Jakania if nothing other than to provide canon fodder. In the 3500's during the Lake Majatran Wars, Jakania often surprised the extremely low expectations of foreign observers with a surprisingly efficient and cunning defense strategy. Despite suffering high casualties, under the right leadership and with the right motivation the Jakanian forces can sometimes perform well (comparatively speaking). Yet in the absence of a foreign enemy, the armed forces are usually characterized by high levels of corruption, and nepotism and ineffective military structures. Also, the military is more concerned with working with civil authorities to ensure the security and stability of the nation often providing crucial support to paramilitary groups when responding to internal security issues. Generally speaking the Armed Forces are positioned in a way to reinforce internal security forces (usually army units focused around cities, transportation nodes and patrolling rural areas; air defense units are positioned around urban centres and pieces of critical infrastructure while navy, marines and air force reinforce border, tribal, and coastal security forces as need be) while also being positioned to respond to invasion. Defense plans usually include retreating to defend key urban and transportation areas while surrendering the country side to paramilitary squads which will act to set up an underground resistance and work to promote popular resistance. Due to the recent effects of Luthori colonization, there has developed a substantial "white" (Luthori, Augustan, and Deltarian) minority which dominates top positions in the military along with power local rulers who often stuff local units with their family members as part of large patronage networks. The government often invests in weapons of mass destruction as a force multiplier to its structural weakness. While nuclearization efforts often fail and squander vast resources on corruption but the armed forces often invest in chemical and biological weapons. Such programs are often poorly hidden, crude operations, and basic development but it still provides an external detriment to invasion.
