Message | Mr Speaker We would usually be majorly against this bill as it is removing the people's right to sue a doctor if they do wrong. However we do acknowledge that as pointed out, this may make doctors less productive if they are less willing to take necessary risks in fear of being sued. We would like to ask the Citizens Party how this would be dealt with, would the patients that have been mistreated go to the medical regulatory body and get them to act on their behalf? And also would the patients receive compensation? Edward Sanders MP New Leader of Choice |

Message | Mr Speaker, Patients or co-workers, etc. will report a suspected case of malpractice to the regulatory body which will investigate the allegations, if the case is proven the doctor can be striped of their licence, sent to prison, etc. Patients will be given compensation by the doctor/their insurance company. Hospitals as a body can also be charged. Sophie Walsh Minister of Health & Social Services |
