MessageHerr President,

Folkepartiet proudly supports the freedom of religion and the freedom of conscience. It may not be many, but some of our fellow citizens find vaccinations objectionable on religious grounds, especially in orthodox Ameliorate communities. I personally have no problem with vaccinations and as a GP, I have always tried to convince these people not to reject them. But if they really have a problem, it begs the question whether it is right to force them to silence their conscience and religious beliefs and force them to take an action on their families which they do not agree with. These deep-seated beliefs must be protected so that dialogue can ensue - that way, mandatory vaccinations will cause a lot less social unrest and, in the end, will be accepted by everyone regardless of creed, in full accord with their conscience.

MessageMr Speaker,

in theory we would support this, but we must consider this matter in the light of the knowledge provided by medical science. If herd immunity is weakened as a result of more and more people opting out of vaccination, then this might, in severe cases, cause great danger for the health of vulnerable people such as the elderly or newborn children. Therefore, we believe that the status quo, unfortunately, is the most responsible solution from a public health point of view.

MessageMr Speaker,

Sosialistisk Folkepartiet would argue that we as a state have a duty to the protection of all our citizens, and indeed the children of our nation are as much citizens of the state as they are children of their parents. It is an act tantamount to child abuse to not vaccinate a child. The state ensures protection of children from abuse, and SF will not vote in favour of rolling back those protections. Never mind other issues of herd protection - though, as noted by the Minister from FV, this is also a very important factor. Simple human rights mean that freedom from illness for the children trump the freedom of religion of the parents. After all, not one single child has ever chosen to become religious, but I can assure the member from FP they would never choose to become ill.
