Bill: Optimising the numbers in Parliament - Act of 3916

Details

Submitted by[?]: Hosianism Party of Rutania

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 3917

Description[?]:

Mr Speaker,

We the HPR believe that it would be in the chambers interest to indulge in increasing our numbers in order to represent the peoples interest more accurately. Currently we have approximately 1 member of the house per 500,000 citizens; perhaps with the current 6 party political landscape it would be wise to try out a larger house in order to reduce this ratio.

Despite the 1:600000 ratio, Rutanians are in fact represented in all levels of government and the Progressives believe that this number of MPs can ensure a higher quality of members. Moreover, MPs need to know each other to work together, and you can't be even acquainted with 350 people, meaning that each MP do not know everyone else, hampering coordination and communication within the Parliament. Thus, the Progressives will only support a maximum increment to 200 MPs but not more, realizing the current Multi-Party Political Landscape.

MessageMr Speaker,

The CPR support a large increase in the number of MPs, but we fail to see why it need be 351. Coalition government is the norm in this country, so an extra seat to break possible deadlock, which we assume it is put as 351, not 350, is not needed.
