MessageHerr President,

Let me first prevent accusations on behalf of my colleagues that I am some sort of animal-hater. I am not. I love animals and see it as my Hosian duty to care for them. I wouldn't have become a veterinarian otherwise.

But let's think about this - isn't it true that many Kazulian farmers would not have become farmers either, had they not seen it as their duty to husband and care for them? I am not talking the big bio-corporations here, whose large scale may cause some doubts. I am talking the little folk, the small farmers, whose pastoral farms give livestock farming its quintessentially Kazulian feel. They may not have the money to build a new stable of the size bureaucrats in Skalm who've never seen a farm from the inside require - but I can guarantee you, they do care for their animals.

If only we'd trust a farmer just like we'd trust a vet to care for their livestock as part of their job instead of imposing a raft of codified mistrust on them, we'd be doing a great deal to keep our small farming communities viable, promote truly biological farming and shield the little guy from the large-scale competition at the same time. I call upon Storting to simplify animal welfare regulations, and let our farmers do the rest.
