Bill: Restriction of landmine use
Details
Submitted by[?]: Alorian Liberty Alliance (ALA)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 3920
Description[?]:
We think that anti-personell mines can cause a lot of damage among civilians long after the conflict ended. The majority of landmine victims are civilians, not soldiers. Most of landmine casualties are peace-time deaths. Land mines can cause deaths long after the conflict ends. Every 22 minutes, someone somewhere around the world is killed or maimed by a landmine. We are here to take the first step in the right direction by restricting use of landmines to unpopulated areas. |

Message | Mr Speaker, The heart of this matter is a tricky one for it is hard to discount the practical use of these devices in warfare. I myself am not personally a military man however I am told that they are key in halting enemy advances and providing valuable time to reinforce fronts which are deemed as weak or unprepared. Whilst we agree that civilian casualties is appalling and should be prevented where possible, the APB believe that these areas should be quarantined after the conflict ends and that landmines should only be used in areas which are not urban or populated. |
