Bill: Reducing Bureacracy

Details

Submitted by[?]: Opinion Poll Vultures

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2056

Description[?]:

Noting the extremely high number of seats in the legislature, which we feel is unnecessary for doing business, after all 599 votes take a long time to count, we feel that the legislature should be scaled down to 499 seats.

MessageCheck the polls yourself. The people do not support bureacracy. You can oppose this legislation all you want, eventually the voice of the people will overcome.

Message"Big" and "Small" governments are not measures of size, they are measures of power.

you could have one person in government making all the decisions, but that doesn't make a "small" government if they have complete control.

Returning personal freedom and responsability are all aspects of a small government, NOT giving personal control to ANY part of the government (local or otherwise)

MessageHey! We came up with 599, and we like 599.

We will not back this bill. We believe that now the people of this country have more representation, so ALL of the people are represented.

MessageSo long as there are seats from each commune the people have representation. 599 seats is far far too many for only 40 million people, it is inefficient.

MessageOOC: In many countries with populations our size, they have about the same amount of seats or MORE! France, for example.

Messageooc: france also loves bureacracy :D, im basing this on the poll that says the people strongly favor autocracy over democracy, now its impossible to have an autocratic nation on here...but what that means basically is they prefer their legislature to be small and have long terms ;)

MessageThe NDP believes more seats gives a better representation of the peoples votes, thus we vote against.

MessageThe idea of a representative democracy is that there are simply too many people for every single person to have a vote on every single bill. Representative democracy is the best solution for a large population, but only with an efficient and logical ratio of representatives to voters. 599 representatives and 40 million citizens means roughly 66,000 citizens per representative...there is no need for such a small area of representation!

ooc: representatives in america generally have 500,000 people under them :P

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.
