Bill: Anti-Addictive Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Alderdath Fedrali

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2172

Description[?]:

It is contrary to the health of our citizens to allow the unresticted sale of alcohol and tobacco products. It is in the best interest of our nation to prevent citizens of our nation who are not adults from by purchusing these products. Studies show that the younger you are when you are start using these products, the more likely you are to become addicted to them. If we prevent these sales to children, it will limit tobacco and alcohol related deaths such as cancer, drunk driving, etc.

MessageUnfortunately we can't support this; we don't believe the government should be imposing conditions on what people can put in their own body, whether it's in the "best interests of the nation" or not. Besides which, regarding recreational drug use there "are no laws regulating what citizens can put into their bodies" at the moment, so these measures seem rather limited.

MessageI feel that people should only be allowed to harm themselves when they have reached adulthood and are considered old enough to make such desicions with experiance under their belt(s).

MessageWe find it a ludicrous concept that people should reach maturity at a legally specified age, and prior to that should be considered unable to determine what happens to their own bodies. Would very young children smoke? They wouldn't want to, and in any case their parents would definitely have something to say about it. As for adolescents, you should treat them as the sort of adults you want them to become - responsible and respectful.

Does the KUSP support children smoking or drinking? No. But then again, we don't support excessive adult drinking or smoking in general. That is not a reason to ban either. People - everyone - should be informed of the risks, certainly, and the power of tobacco corporations especially should be moderated, but the final choice should be left to the individual concerned.
