Bill: Establishment of the Telamon Supreme Court OOC: Discussion

Details

Submitted by[?]: Chauvinistisk Parti för Telamons (CPT)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 4046

Description[?]:

OOC: We feel it would be a fun role play scenario to make the Minister of Justice the Chief Justice of a supreme court and have some roles for the court. Perhaps the President could have some power in choosing the other members. This will make the cabinet position of Minister of Justice the second most powerful cabinet position behind prime Minister. We need to decide how many members, what the court will do, and how they will be selected. Any ideas?

MessageOOC: This actually sounds pretty cool. But how would it work? Any changes must go through the Riksdag, so it'd be hard to give it any real purpose...

MessageOOC: We could have the court handle political corruption trials and have cases brought up before the court in a decision, and each party's member could "vote". Perhaps we could have a rule that the minister of justice gets to be in the court, and his vote in judicial cases counts as two, and then we have one member of the court from the leading party of each province. So, we could have 6 members, and the chief justice has a vote of 2. Seven votes.

MessageOOC: A promising proposition. A supreme court that represent the people sounds like an excellent proposal.

MessageOOC:

or how about this:

prime minister: 1 vote

president: 1 vote

minister of justice: 2 votes

1 member appointed from each province: 5

MessageOOC: Well, traditionally the prime and vice minister don't have any representation in supreme courts. Separation of powers and such.

MessageOOC: Traditionally the President appoints members. We could have the president "appoint" 2 members (from his own party), have the minister of justice be the chief justice and have a 2 point vote, and have one from each province.
