Bill: Contraception Promotion Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Libertarian-Socialist Coalition
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2173
Description[?]:
The LSP believes that by promoting access to contraception, we can help to reduce the spread of disease, unwanted pregnancies, and also curb the need for abortions. Many people, especially the poor, simply cannot afford contraception on a regular basis. Other groups of people, such as teens, may have limited access to or may be too wary to buy contraception. By making condoms easy to come by (no pun intended), we can positively benefit many groups in our society. The slight cost to the government will more than be offset by the net savings to our health programs, welfare system, and labor force. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy on subsidising contraception.
Old value:: The government does not supply free or discounted contraceptives.
Current: Contraceptives are banned for religious reasons.
Proposed: The government offers free contraceptives in pharmacies and public toilets.

Message | Yeah because 50 cents is just too much to ask... How many people are so poor they can't buy contraceptives?! This is just a waste of money. Where does the government get the contraceptives? It buys them. With what? With Tax dollars of course. So not only does the tax payer now pay for the contraceptives, he also pays for the government program that buys and distributes them and the numberless administrators who monitor and audit the program? Yes. How does this end up being cheaper? This has to be the single silliest legistlative proposal offered. Period. |

Message | Agreed, there is no need for this to come under the Governments remit. |

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators. |
