Bill: Right to Health Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Libertarian-Socialist Coalition

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2172

Description[?]:

The LSP declares that every Jakanian citizen has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Yet, our current health care system is purposely designed to reward those with the means to pay for specialist doctors, intensive surgery, and patented drugs. Just because one is poor does not mean that he or she should be denied their livelihood.

We at the LSP realize that a public health care system would be far too great a burden on the Jakanian taxpayer and would likely end up fairly inefficient. We propose a middle ground between too much help and no help at all by subsidizing the health costs of the poor. By allowing private practices, we can still reward good doctors with more visits and, thus, a better income. Yet, subsidizing the poor's health costs will make sure that no doctor remains too out of reach for anybody.

Random fact: When elections in a country are held, all bills in the voting phase are reset to the debate phase.

Random quote: "The moral justification of capitalism does not lie in the altruist claim that it represents the best way to achieve 'the common good.' It is true that capitalism does, if that catch-phrase has any meaning, but this is merely a secondary consequence. The moral justification for capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system consonant with man's rational nature, that it protects man's survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is justice." - Ayn Rand
