Bill: Organ Donation Requirments
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Coalition
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 3942
Description[?]:
Organ donations should be done on an opt-out system. Studies show that a vast majority of people don't mind donating their organs upon their death. However, most people are simply too lazy to sign up to become an organ donor. That's exactly why organ donation should be done on an opt out basis. People who have strong objections to organ donation, be them for religious reasoning or otherwise, aren't forced to participate and are allowed to opt-out while others who just "can't be bothered" to fill out the paperwork but otherwise would be happy to donate organs could possibly save a fellow man, woman, or child's life. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning organ donations.
Old value:: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Current: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Proposed: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.

Message | It is dangerous to assume that consent is given, especially in the case of organ donation. Our party will vote against this bill. We would not be against a campaign to raise awareness on the need for more organ donations - as long as the funds used would be from donations or local governments that have consented to the campaign program. |

Message | I would ask the Confederates to offer some examples in which this bill would be dangerous. |

Message | Some individuals due to religious reasons do not want their body messed with, even after death. It is dangerous to assume that they would be comfortable with it without opting out. Furthermore, some people may be unaware of organ donation in the first place, but still would not be comfortable with doing so upon their death. |

Message | I'm afraid I don't see any argument in your response besides, "Well maybe someone who doesn't want their organs messed with might accidentally not opt-out." The fact is, if there are any individuals that feel so strongly against donating their organs they would opt-out that's not placing an undue burden upon these citizens. Furthermore, if they felt so strongly opposed to organ donation that they felt their rights were being impeded all they would have to do is fill out a piece of paper. The Confederates argument simply has no standing in the real world. |

Message | I think I will stand with the Confederates on this one. Organs belong to their owners, so the donations must have the person's express consent. |

Message | Citizens organs are obviously their own property and everyone in this discussion agrees to this fact but the amount of life saving organs that could be donated through this simple change in the process is something we cannot ignore. I sincerely hope everyone will see the logic in this bill and support it. |

Random fact: RP laws follow the same passing rules as in-game variable laws. Laws that are not of a constitutional nature require a simple majority "Yes" vote from active parties currently holding seats. Laws that are of a constitutional nature require a 2/3 majority "Yes" vote from active parties currently holding seats. RP laws may be abolished a simple majority vote this applies to ANY RP law. |
