Bill: Reasonable Retirement Age Act 3961
Details
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 3961
Description[?]:
Currently, the retirement age is set at the high age of 67. Although ideally we would prefer a much lower retirement age, we acknowledge that there is much resistance towards this. As such, we propose compromising and proposing a sensible and somewhat reasonable retirement age of 65. Moderately lower than 67 but not overly so. We hope the members of the diet will vote in favour of our proposal. In addition, it is also beneficial for a lower retirement age as it means more jobs are available for younger workers, thus lowering youth unemployment and unemployment as a whole. |
Proposals

Message | Mr. Speaker, The problem is not that we have a limited number of jobs and the elderly are causing youth unemployment. That's ridiculous. That's ludicrous. Also, the types of jobs young people seek and hold are not in any way similar to the types of job the elderly hold. To posit that the elderly are somehow more attractive as employees of certain industries than younger people is crazy. There was a reason we increased the retirement age in the first place. That is because the life expectancy of people has gone up and up and up and the retirement age has stayed... stagnant. Studies have shown that working even in old age keeps the mind healthy and is essential for longevity. It's also an economic benefit. Whereas New Choice may believe that 65-67 year-olds are vulnerable and weak, we believe they are perfectly fit enough to continue working and producing for this great country. The Rt Hon. Thomas Buckley MD Leader of the HDU and Minister of Defense |
