Bill: Moderate Cloning Options Act of July 2173
Details
Submitted by[?]: Proletariat Revolution Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2174
Description[?]:
INTRODUCTION On the grounds that there is conflict arising, between parties due to firmly held science-based and religious-based beliefs, a middle ground would best be sought in the field of cloning to prevent abuse from lack of regulations, while allowing for research to occur under regulated conditions so that the life or lives of those involved aren't jeopardized. PROPOSAL Knowing that the current nature of the right wing of this national assembly favours more religion-influenced legislations that honour the right to live and other faith-based ideas; Knowing that the secular end of this assembly wishes for science and other elements related to the state and its operations to remain independant of any religious influence; It is hereby suggested by SLP that while science remains untouched by religion that the government ensures some regulation so that no one is offended by the use of certain materials by science that may be interpretted as 'immoral' and at the same time, it is unfettered by religion's principles. REGULATION Stem Cells - Given the lack of willingness to legalise abortion, thus leading to a limited supply of stem cells, out of respect for '"life's sanctity", human stem cells should go unused at the moment, until such a time that a concensus can be reached. Instead, it is hereby proposed that stem cells from animals that are not classified as endangered or threatened by the government be legal material for science to use in its research. These animal stem cells are permitted for research in order for our scientists to reach a point in history when they can convince the world that it is worth more than people have every thought. With available knowledge and scientifically proven facts, they may acquire the legal license to move onto stem cell research with human fetuses. Human Cloning - From stem cell research comes the possibility of cloning and recognizing that it is still a slippery slope for many, it should remain in just labratories. The cloning make take part in order to produce humans based on the genetic code that we currently possess. These humans will be strictly for the use of scientific and medical research. These humans will not be permitted for use in any circumstances other than the research ones that have been mentioned. Animal Cloning - Is less regulated than human cloning, and is permitted on all animals and heavily encouraged on species of animals that are considered either endangered or threatened. However, until such times as these animals can be successfully reintroduced into the wild with natural predators, they should remain in controlled environments like zoos and eventually moved to wild life preserves, where they will have a chance to adapt to an outdoor environment without the threat of hunters. |

Message | The AAS sees this as 'risk' legislation. If we start letting 'faith-biased initiatives' decide where our tax dollars are spent, or what is 'acceptable science', then we risk opening floodgates toan arena where ALL policy is decided by religious pressure groups. |

Message | Yes, we have a concern with 'faith-based' as well, but SLP also feels that now is the time to bridge the gap between the two sides, before they feel that they should curb any of our rights because they are far too liberal. Regulated would merely ensure that it's not completely without ethics. (Ethics being different than morals). It would allow science to move ahead, but without offending everything. We believe that most of the regulations should be placed not on what is researched, but on the source of the material that is being used for the research. Abortions are highly opposed by the conservative parties of this government, which likely means that stem cells wouldn't be a good source of material, but using bacteria cultures aren't, (for example)... |
