| My understanding is that the cultural protocols are all due to be reviewed in May of this year (R: 2016). Currently Egelion has one outstanding set of Cultural Protocol (see here http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=399420 ) which date to 3598 and aren't particularly extensive. I propose that we review our Cultural Protocols with a view to updating them for the next few centuries. I'd like to build on the original Protocols, but also look at our neighbours and see what we can produce. =Background= ==3598 Cultural Protocols== As discussed above we do already have a set of very basic Cultural Protocols that outline the following; Ethnicity - The name of our nation is synonymous with the largest ethnic group, the Egelions (ooc: Spanish) with minorities of Caillean (ooc: Catalonian) and Ghadrash (ooc Hungarians). Religion - Our population is almost homogenous, being largely of the Patriarchal (ooc: Roman Catholic) faith with minorities of Bishopal (ooc: Anglican) and those of indigenous faith. Now as you can see not an overly extensive list, but we have a good starting point, Egelion is essentially a nation that historically has been overwhelmingly of Iberian stock and Roman Catholic religion, akin to the real Spain, Argentina, Chile or Uruguay. ==Neighbours== ===Keris=== This is our continent an no doubt we will have been influenced by our neighbours. The other countries are almost exclusively white and typically Patriarchal (Catholic). - Kizenia - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=458040 Ethnicity - Largely Kizenians (Romanian) and Zyldavs (Hungarian) with a large (15%) immigrant population of Kuzakis (Japanese) from Western Dovani. Religion - Largely Patriarchal (Roman Catholic) or Luthoran (Protestant). - Dolgaria - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=375557 Ethnicity - Largely Dolgavans (Latvians) with minorities of other (mostly white) groups. Religion - Largely Terran Patriarchal (Roman Catholic) or with minorities of Charismism followers and a few Luthorans. - Trigunia - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=430130 Ethnicity - Largely Rodshyan (Russian) with minorities of other (mostly white) groups. The country also has a minority (2%) of Egelions. Religion - Largely Patriarchal (Roman Catholic) with minorities of other Hosian and a significant (8%) number of Ahmadis. ===Dovani=== Our eastern neighbours, separated by sea. From reading their cultural protocols it would seem that historically Egelion was involved in colonial activity in the north-western part of this continent. Dovani is much more diverse that our continent, although Hosianism is generally well represented with strong traditional native religion. In terms of ethnicity most are "Dovani" (East Asian) with the interesting addition of the Dranianos (Filipinos), a product of historic Egelion colonialism and "fusion" with the native population. - Dankuk - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=440580 Ethnicity - Mostly Kyo with a large minority (32%) of Dranianos (Filipinos). The Dranianos are a product of historic Egelion colonialism, consisting of a mix of Egelion and Kyo, in terms of ethnicity and culture and they speak Egelion (Spanish). Religion - Half the population are Hosian (presumably most of the Dranianos are Patriarchal), a third are irreligious and a tenth practice Sindo/Daenism, presumably a traditional native religion. - Minkuni-Hulstria - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=427426 Ethnicity - Another nation that appears to be the product of Artanian (white)/Dovani (East Asian) mixing following colonialism Religion - A mix of cult-worship of their Head of State, with a fifth belonging to a number of Hosian groups and a fifth to traditional native religions. - Sekowo - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=459331 Ethnicity - Largely Sekowans (Japanese) with a mix of other groups (East Asian and Native American) Religion - In practice well over half the population are either nonreligious or atheist. However culturally most people appear to belong to traditional native religions. - Kazulia - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=448490 Ethnicity - The odd one out in NW Dovani, the population is largely Kazulian (Scandinavian) with Dovani (East Asian) minorities, and a minority (3%) Dranianos (see Dankuk) population. Religion - Largely (58%) Hosian, with the Patriarchal Church (40% of total population) being the largest single denomination. Minorities of non-religious and Dovani traditional religions. ===Seleya=== Seleya is a diverse continent to our South and includes a variety of different ethnicities, including the Canrillaise (French) in the very south of the continent. There are a number of nations that may influence us for one reason or another (priority on closest). Baltusia, Likatonia and Lodamun do not have a confirmed cultural protocol on their nation pages. Kalistan - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=448517 - A real melting pot, the largest ethnic group is the Kali (Indian/Afghan) with Dovani (East Asian) and Artanian (white) populations. Religion, well, a real mix, go take a look, some native and some obvious Terran-wide (Hosianism and Ahmadism). Gaduridos - http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=447085 - I believe we have a historic good relationship with Gaduridos, we at least have a Treaty with them. They are very similar to us, being of a Bentaran/Vintallian (Spanish/Italian mix, think Argentina). Religion, slightly under half Hosian, (again, Patriarchal), with smaller minorities of Dovani traditional native religions and non-religious. ===Other=== Artania and Majata are quite far away in Terra, however it is likely that immigrants will have come from these continents. Although Majatrans (Middle East with Arab/Jewish/Berber/Slavic type populations) would be distinctive and would bring Yeudish (Jewish) and Ahmadi (Muslim) populations to Egelion, however these should be small. Artanians are typically white and as such second generation Artanians would like mix in with the dominant white Egelion population, although perhaps retaining their ancestral language at home, and likely belonging to a plethora of different Hosian Churches. ==Egelion History== I'll be honest, the Wiki article doesn't have a lot. Egelion was peopled thousands of years ago, probably from Dovani, then Seleucian traders arrived around 4,500 years ago, then not a lot happened until the "modern" era began around 2,000 years. =Proposals= I propose several key changes from the original Cultural Protocols. Firstly, the ethnic Ghadrash (Hungarians) should become the ethnic Zyldavs from neighbouring Kizenia. explained by historic border changes or migrations. Secondly the Solduni, with no background other than the original Cultural Protocols should be exchanged for a collection of Dovani Traditional Native religions.
