Bill: AU Report

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party (Plaid Ryddfrydol)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3989

Description[?]:

As you may know, we have been reviewing our membership of the Artanian Union (AU). We think it is a failure that restricts the rights of the Senedd to make decisions.

The AU describes itself as a 'supranational organisation', which we do not like. This means we have to relinquish some power to the failing union.

We also have to pay a membership fee on a yearly basis. We feel withdrawing from the AU could save us a lot of money.

If there is an attack on a fellow AU nation, we are required to help defend that nation, or give humanitarian or economic aide. We think we should have the power to choose what to do with our available resources.

We are expected to follow 'Resolutions' which are passed by the Artanian Representative Council. We can however withdraw from these resolutions if it is met with opposition from the populace of our nation. Despite this, it is inevitable that not every Alorian will know about every single resolution that is passed by the AU, so they will not oppose it. This means we, as a Senedd, have no power to oppose these resolutions. We think we should have the power to oppose these by a simple vote here in the Senedd. However, I am sure the AU will allow us to do that. We believe this means we lose a lot of our sovereign power.

VERDICT

The verdict of this review is a withdrawal from the Artanian Union is the best route for Aloria.

MessageWe do not agree with this with the help of AU only we had made several projects like establishment of ARTANIAN SPACE AGENCY in Sildar and we also got many support to organise many events instead of leaving AU why can't we make amendments in AU.

Leaving AU will cost us more and I suggest fellow congressmen to reconsider your decision and at least with held your decision till we resolve the issue.

MessageWe can still work with countries in the AU by setting up trade deals and such, but we do not have to suffer the consequences of being part of a political union.

MessageTo the APSC: While we understand your concerns, it is extremely unlikely we will be able to negotiate with the AU to get radical reforms.

MessageCan we at least try? If we receive no reforms, we should put into place a referendum.

OOC: I suggest that we all pledge sides and whoever has the most votes at the next election wins the referendum.
