Message | Diplomatic immunity to criminal prosecution is a necessary convention of international diplomacy. No nations would send ambassadors if said ambassadors could be taken by the host on any trumped-up charge when relations go south. If an ambassador commits a crime, he gets expelled permanently and can't harm us anymore. It's a necessary evil. We would consent to making diplomats accountable to civil actions. If we pass this law, however, the nation's diplomatic capabilities will take a hit. |
