Message | On Article 1: What if the government is pro-employer? Then every worker who strikes gets fired. That is only a good proposal when the Party in power is pro-worker. We oppose. On Article 2: A more serious question is who decides which categories of workers are critical to society? For instance, I could see the easy argument is public safety personnel. But the SP would say Teachers are also critical to the operation of society, and yet we would never dream of denying them the right to strike if it is in their interests to do so. We feel the same about workers in State Industry, and yet, their unions are completely independent of Government control, and we would never deny them the right to strike for their interests. Workers ONLY have the power of their labor to leverage against the power of management. We do not seek to deny anyone of them their rights or limiting their power against management and owners. So we would only support this Article if we defined "critical" as "nobody". |
