Message | We firmly believe in the right and responsibility of citizens to make their own choices. We fully support impartial education on the dangers of various substances, but believe that individuals must be free to make their own decisions. We are opposed. |

Message | Quite frankly we believe it ridiculous to wrap people up in cotton wool in this manner. The state should not be protecting individuals from themselves, and if a person wants to do something with his/her own body in the full knowledge that it could be detrimental to health or even life-threatening, then they should be allowed to do so. In short, people should take personal responsibility for their own bodies. We will not support bills that further the growth of the Nanny State, which is exactly what this bill will do. Regulation 1 would be very hard to police, but more importantly, the addictive nature of tobacco would cause those denied the right to purchase such a product to resort to buying from criminals rather than stop smoking. The proposal would therefore fuel the black market, and provide a further source for manipulation of individuals. Regulation 2 is an unecessary restriction on individual freedom, whilst Regulation 3 is an unecessary regulation on the free market. We therefore oppose. |

Message | Perhaps but what if someone who is unhealthy gets some tobacco they are ensured death even more. Or if a kid makes a false ID card and gets away with it. It is harder to forge a Credit Card-and if they are a minor with a Credit Card maybe checks could be used, And the Government-run stores so we can trust them-and so it is easier to moniter. If an addict is unhealthy (he shouldn't have a problem with anything else) then he should be sent to a Drug Recuperating place. |

Message | People should take personal responsibility for their own health, the government should not be forced to, and indeed has no right to intervene. If somebody wants to write their own death wish, let them. Quite simply, it's not the problem of the state............ |

Message | I thought the state's charge was over their people so they could lead a good and peaceful life. Not kill themselves. |
Date | 00:32:15, January 25, 2006 CET | From | Inrala Panjoregu Kiokutou (DPP) | To | Debating the The Sale of Tobacco-Ammended |
Message | In our view: "The state has a duty to protect the Individual from other Individuals, but not from himself (or herself to be politically correct)". In opposing this bill, we are holding true to this belief. |

Message | OOC: When a proposal contains parameters (for example "certain restrictions" in this case), please place them in the formal bill description. Comments in debate do not form part of the bill. Since the game can't cover all options, you can also use the description to modify the formal proposals to some extent, but not to the point of contradiction, or to where a different formal proposal would be a closer match for the intent. IC: We shudder at the concept of "government approved stores". We remain opposed. |
