Message | "We strongly urge the Imperial Senate against this legislation. It has been a long-held tradition for agricultural matters to be managed by regional and local governments. Each province is faced by different geographic circumstances and that has always been recognized by the national government. It is not the place of the national government to be mandating these kinds of rules, whether is a regulation or a prohibition of regulation. The Imperial Senate is not in touch with the needs of concerns of the local communities on these matters and it never will be. These issues can only be effectively handled at the local level." ---- Kang Sung-min Secretary-General New Century Alliance |

Message | "Whilst it may be a long-held tradition that local governments deal with these agricultural matters, it does not mean that such a tradition is necessarily beneficial for industry. It is certainly true that regional differentiation in laws prevents the creation of a system that has a fair and balanced approach to competition, and keeps the workforce and finance unevenly distributed away from those who need it most. It is understood that some of our poorest communities are those based around struggling agricultural practices - this bill modernizes these practices, and allows the farmers themselves to garner some benefits." ---- Pak Jung Won, Minister of Food & Agriculture |
