Bill: OOC: Cultural Protocol Disscusion

Details

Submitted by[?]: Parti Libéral de Alduria (Lib)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 4019

Description[?]:

We need to reaffirm our cultural protocol by May 1st, otherwise our nation will be culturally open and we will lose the cultural protection of Alduria, in accordance with sections 15 & 16 of the Game Rules (see http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6363 ). .

I would like to put forward that we maintain the current protocol (below with updated links and naming tools suggested by moderation). I will sponsor this.
************

This bill is created in order to protect the Aldurian culture from radical and unrealistic changes, in conformity to game rules (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6363.

CULTURE

The nation of Alduria has a French (called "Canrillaise" or "South Seleyan") Cultural Identity in this game, with heavy Holy Roman influences due to the past Union with the Holy Luthori Empire.

PRE-GAME HISTORY

The territory of Alduria was in the past inhabited by Malvic (Austronesian) tribes. In antiquity, the coasts of South Seleya, including the Aldurian coasts, were colonized by Selucian (Roman) city-states, leading to the future emergence of the Canrilaise (French) people and culture. During the Middle Ages, these city-states crystallized into a number of feudal kingdoms, and for much of its Medieval history most of the territory of Alduria was under the rule of the neighboring Canrillaise nation of Kanjor. Modern Alduria became a separate and united entity in 2072, with the unification of the various Canrillaise polities on its territory.

ETHNICITY

Canrillaise = French
Luthori = British
Malvic = Austronesian
Duntrekker = Afrikaner

~Percentages of the Population~

82% Canrillaise
7% Luthoris
5% Malvics
4% Duntrekkers
2% Other

*Please note, these numbers, while not stagnate, should not fluctuate wildly. Large demographic changes should only occur with an extensive RP, and consent of all involved.

The largest ethnic group in Alduria is the Canrillaise people, who are also the dominant ethnicity in Kanjor and Rildanor. The Canrillaise people are based on contemporary French people, and they speak the Canrillaise (French) language.

Luthoris are a significant minority in Alduria, as a result of centuries of common history in the modern era, including periods of political union. After Alduria's independence from Luthori, many Luthoris left the country. Luthoris are based on the British people, and they speak the Luthori (English) language.

The Malvic peoples were once the largest and most widespread ethnic group on the continent of Seleya, until the southwards expansion of Superseleyan (Indo-European) civilizations. Malvic peoples are based on Austronesians, and they speak the Malvic (Austronesian) languages.

Duntrekkers form a significant minority in Alduria, largely due to the proximity of Saridan. The Duntrekkers are an ethnic group of Dundorfian (Germanic) descent, inhabiting various areas of Artania, Seleya,and Majatra. The Duntrekkers left Dundorf for other parts of Terra in the 1600-1700s, for a variety of reasons and remain a distinctive ethnic group to this day. They are based on Afrikaners in terms of culture and language.

RELIGION

Hosianism = Christianity
Aurorian Church = Roman Catholic Church, Gallican rite
Jacquardism = Huguenot
Agathism = Catharism

~Percentages of the Population~

82% Hosian
--73% Aurorian
--7% Jacquard
--2% Other Hosian
13% Agathiste
5% Other (including Irreligious)

*Please note, these numbers, while not stagnate, should not fluctuate wildly. Large demographic changes should only occur with an extensive RP, and consent of all involved.

The largest religion in Alduria is Hosianism, a monotheistic religion founded in 1 CE which believes Eliyahu of Yishelem to be the Spirit of God and the Saviour of mankind. The largest Hosian denomination in Alduria is the Aurorian Patriarchal Church, the largest Patriarchal (Catholic/Orthodox) church created in 3861 by the merger of previously separated Churches. The Aurorian Church is closely connected to Canrillaise identity, and Canrillaise serves as the Church's liturgical language. The second largest Hosian denomination is represented by Jacquards, a Luthoran (Protestant) group following a Tasselist (Calvinist) theology, heirs of the Abjuration (Reformation) in South Seleya.

Agathism forms the second largest religion in Alduria, and it is a syncretic faith combining elements of the Aldegarian (Iranian) religions with Hosian elements. Agathism was born in the Middle Ages in Kanjor, and most of its faithful relocated to Alduria as a result of persecution by the Hosian Church. Agathism is based on Catharism.

MessageJust to clarify, nobody has "been put in charge" of the process of whether Alduria affirms or doesn't affirm its Cultural Protocols. There is a procedure in place to affirm your Cultural Protocols if you want to, and you're all equally entitled to play your role in that :).

A few quick points

a) Remember the Cultural Protocol bill needs to provide links to help with character naming and language translations. eg.

https://translate.google.co.uk/
http://fantasynamegenerators.com/#realNames

b) Provide links to the Game Rules (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6363 ) and the Cultural Protocols Index (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6365 ). Bear in mind the link to to the rules in the bill at the moment is out-of-date and doesn't work.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Regards,

Aquinas

MessageParti des Progressistes Royales

I would personally quite like to see the culture maintained. I would like to see what the Libertarian Party thinks about this (and potentially the People Party if they are interested in playing in Alduria).

According to the rules
(It should be supported by a 2/3rds majority of all players with seats (not just those with seats who vote) and over 50% of the seats in the legislature.) The current situation in Alduria means that if two parties (excluding the people party) agreed then the protocol would pass. However I feel that the three of us (you, me and the Libertarians) who have all been here for a month should all come to a compromise rather than have two of us pass something that the other is completely against.

If you are completely dead set on having Alduria become culturally open, we would like to suggest a compromise that the new culture be influenced by the old culture and we retain many of the elements of the old culture.

MessageWe would also like to see some elements of the old culture as it is what defines ourselves today. I'm kind of confused, is this just determining the demographics of Alduria for better role-play? and what affects or changes will it have in terms of role play?

MessageCurrently the cultural protocol of Alduria is defined here: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=441983

I'm not the best at explaining stuff so have a read of the rules; sections 6, 15,16,17

I do not think we should become culturally open because I am happy with the current culture of Alduria and I do not think we need to change it.

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI).

Random quote: “Where would the weapons and equipment come from once you've banned the defence industry? Will we be defended by all your hippy people hurling potatoes and cabbages?” - Margaret Woodhall, former Dranian politician
