MessageWe cannot support Article 1- It violates the National Service Act: http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=366486

Adoption of Article 2 ends Kalistan's status as a safe haven for Refugees, one that is older in Kalistan than even the Socialist Party.

We are philosophically opposed to Article 3, because we are opposed to all nuclear weapons. But we would ask the Speaker: Where do they intend to acquire nuclear weapons, as Kalistan does not maintain a stock of nuclear weapons (neither do most nations in the world), and so if we were to actually use them, we would have to acquire them from somewhere, and doing so, or even appearing to attempt to do so will greatly destabilize the region and put our neighbors on the defensive.

We would be willing to vote for Article 4, though it is not our preferred position on the issue, were the act to be separated out into a different bill.

We would be willing to hear the Majority's Argument for Article 5. Nationalized defense industries certainly haven't been very efficient at producing the Navy the SP has sought: we have not been able to acquire the technology, for example for any subsurface vessels. Perhaps a privatized defense industry would lead to some breakthroughs here. But if the only reason is just an ideological commitment to privatization, the SP would not go along with that program.

We can find common ground on 40% of this bill.

MessageThe CCC will seek to privatize as many industries in Kalistan as possible, as we feel the private sector is the best vehicle for improving our nation's economy and that government involvement in the private sector leads to decreased efficiency and public corruption.

TheNational Service act was not instated by a majority of legislators at the time of its proposal. We seek to place a moratorium on National Service for the next few election cycles in order to ensure that the people serve a Government that truly represents their will.

It is our view that a refugee is a victim of extreme circumstances abroad, and this act will still welcome them into this great country. We seek to end the abuse of Kalistani generosity by those who come here solely to receive the aid we give.

MessageAs for Nuclear Weapons, we hope to never have to use or aquire them. However we feel it does not serve the best interests of the people to deliberately tie our hands behind our back in times of war.

MessageWell, we disagree about the ideological committment to privatization, but we agree that there are some companies which would likely work better in private hands. The Defense Industry is probably one of them.

The National Service Act Was authorized both times under our Constitutional mechanism. It really makes no difference how many Parties supported it, what makes a difference is that it earned 750 out of 750 seats when it was reauthorized, and a plurality of seats when it was initially passed. If the Majority wants to put a moratorium on the Bill, we suggest that they do so through a resolution before gutting it by ending any sort of civil service using the same exact rules which were used to pass it in the first place, seeing as there is nothing the SP can currently do to stop you, rather than indicting the rules which were used to pass it and will not be used to stop it.

We haven't had any documented abuse of Kalistani Generosity- We are in the corner of the world and nobody ever comes here. But we think it is a good idea to at least keep the door open.

Well, we have registered our objections: This is all we can do, seeing as we do not have a majority.

MessageAfter careful consideration, and taking into account the provocative constitutional arguments of the SPoK, we will abstain on the condition that the process for placing a moratorium through Constitutional mechanisms begins.

We firmly believe that without several election cycles in which the Kalistani people express their will, there should not be National Service.

MessageMinority Leader Martin:

With respect to the Speaker's Position on the National Service Program: The National Service Program has survived in one form or another in Kalistan for the last 1300 years. There have been plenty of elections, including competitive ones, and including ones where the SP has not participated, where the NSP has not been suspended.

If the CCC wishes to place a moratorium on the NSP, it is certainly within their power to do so. The SP will oppose the bill and then will reinstate it the minute it regains the legislative majority, because at that point it will be in our power to do so.

We hope the CCC understands, though they are in no way bound to be affected by them, our objections to the end of a very important national institution after one election. What the CCC does is, of course up to them.

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.
