Bill: Workers Protection Act (2175)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Deltarian Nationalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2180
Description[?]:
The final say in firing employees for going on strike should be left to the Government. This should be held at a Dismissal Tribunal where government appointed clerks shall here evidence from the employer, the employees and the trade union representative (if one) to decide whether the employers motion to sack the employee for going on strike shall be allowed. The only valid grounds for sacking would be going on strike without the unions backing although some exceptions may be made in cases to stop sackings. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Employer's rights in regards to firing striking workers.
Old value:: Employers can fire workers who are deemed to have gone on strike without reasonable reasons.
Current: Employers can fire workers who are deemed to have gone on strike without reasonable reasons.
Proposed: Government approval is needed before strikers can be fired.

Message | Note that at present companies need to have a good reason for firing strikers and from this can be inferred that strikers can appeal against such decisions. Workers have enough protection already; why the need to remove the powers of businesses? |

Message | It's not removing the business's powers, they can still fire employees but when it comes to strikes there should be an exception as the business could use the excuse of strikes instead of redundances as they would not have to pay the workers as much for leaving. |

Message | The "reasonable reasons" clause catches that. If that happens what's to stop the fired working making the case public by giving the stroy to a newspaper. No company would want to risk that bad publicity such allegations, if upheld, could cause. |
