Bill: Social Democratic Minority Government Proposal (Archiving)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Razem

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 4031

Description[?]:

Mr Speaker, (OOC: Marshal would be really cool by the way)

The voters, in record turnout, have painted an ambiguous picture which screams out collaboration, compromise and pragmatism. As the largest party in the Sejm, we believe we are best suited to lead the executive branch in a minority government. We are willing to compromise and will be not be seeking to run roughshod over the Sejm, if appointed. Our party has decided to nominate me as its candidate for Chairman of the Council, as a gesture of reaching out across the aisle, the far left, the centre and the right. We are in a constitutionally sensitive era when the political success of Valruzia as a nation may well be decided. I urge all to go beyond partisan concrns and go for the stability of the nation which has gone so long without an active government.

MessageMr. Speaker (OOC: Yes, Marshal or Supreme/Highest Marshal of the Diet would be very nice),

The Conservative Monarchists currently hold no seats in the Diet. As such, our voice matters very little. While our party prefers a coalition, in order to best represent democracy, we also prefer a government to chaos.

If no coalition can be formed, at your behest, then we will support this minority government.

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Supporting a government propped up by the Metzists or Common Sense Initiative is not an acceptable answer for us. We are willing to consider to support this government if VCRP lends their support too but our preference would be a grand coalition. We are pledging to support a grand coalition in votes of no-confidence, cabinet appointments and budgets.

MessageMr Speaker, (OOC: Yeah, we ought to consider this. The second one sounds especially grand)

That is a radical proposal. I will take it to the party but I feel for now, this one is best one. A grand coalition would be deeply unstable and weak since it doesn't even command an absolute majority. And of course, our two parties have very little in common. It ought t be the very last of our options.

MessageMr. Speaker (OOC: If the others agree, then we can start using it :)),

If it would be of any consolation, should this proposal break down, the KMS could serve as a mediator for a grand coalition. Indeed, such a coalition would be fragile should the parties have very little in common, but a government is a government.

Our party supporters do pray that Valruzia will have a government again.

I yield.

MessageMr Speaker,

The party leadership has sat down and with considerable reluctance and on a razor thin 8-7 vote, the National Executive has endorsed the idea of a grand coalition minority government between PDPS and VCRP. The points made by the Monarchists about potential chaos particularly with rightwing extremist parties mushrooming all over, have helped convince the party that we could lead this, with support from the Social Liberals and hopefully others too.
